Not always. Some people's wisdom teeth come in straight, they can brush them fine, and they never cause trouble. Others aren't so lucky.
Signs it's worth getting them checked
- Pain or pressure in the back of your jaw
- Gums that keep getting swollen or sore behind your last molar
- Food getting stuck back there all the time
- Your other teeth starting to feel crowded
A lot of the time there are no symptoms at all, and we only spot a problem on an X ray. That's why we like to keep an eye on them, especially for teens and young adults.
About the procedure
We do wisdom teeth extractions right here in our Fremont office, so you don't have to get sent somewhere else. We'll talk through numbing and comfort options before the day of, and you'll go home with clear aftercare steps. Most people take it easy for a few days. Soft foods, rest, and no straws for a bit.
If you or your teenager has been putting this off, come in for an exam. We'll take a look and tell you honestly whether they need to come out now, later, or not at all.
